As a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, the First State Bank of Olmsted was able to distribute $35,000 in grant funds provided by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. The first grant involved funds from a Relief Grant in the amount of $20,000. These funds were distributed to organizations and schools in the surrounding area that were experiencing additional costs while providing additional meals to those impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. The Daystar Community Program in Cairo and the SMILES Center in Mounds received funds along with Century and Meridian School in Pulaski County as well as several school districts in Johnson County. The second source of funds was the Targeted Impact Grant program designed to assist organizations who work with minority communities that have been impacted by the COVID-19 virus. $15,000 was distributed evenly between the First Missionary Baptist Church Food Pantry in Mound City; the Cairo Women’s Shelter in Cairo; and the Daystar Community Program in Cairo. Without the funding provided by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago the assistance would not have been available to help these organizations help their communities.
